Aquifoliaceae (Ilicaceae): Tress or shrubs. Leaves alternate, simple, often evergreen; stipules minute or 0. Flowers usually unisexual, actinomorphic, hypognous, small, in axillary cymes or fascicles. Calyx 4-5 partite, persistent. Petals 4-5, free or connate at base. Stamens alternate with petals, free or epipetalous. Disc absent. Ovary superior, 3 more celled, each cell with 1-2 axile ovules. Fruit a drupe with 3 or more pyrenes.
