Carex extensa çok yıllık bir ottur. Nemli ya da ıslak toprağı, güneşli ya da yarı gölgeli bölgeleri tercih eder. Donlara dayanıklıdır.

Yetiştirme

Carex extensa dere kıyısınemli bölge ve sulak alanlarda görülür. Kumlukilli ve tınlı topraklara uyumludur.

Etimoloji

Cins adı Latince saz; tür adı ise Latince uzatılmış anlamına gelir.

Carex extensa 75 cm. büyüyebilir. NisanMayıs ve Haziran aylarında çiçek açar.

Koruma

THE IUCN Red List’e göre Asgari endişe altında tür sınıfı içindedir.

Subgen. Carex: Monoecious; spikes 2 or more, usually unisexual and ± dissimilar, terminal or upper male and lower lateral female, or sometimes terminal gynecandrous and similar to lateral female; inflorescence usually simple; cladoprophyll usually present; stigmas 2 or 3; nut trigonous to terete or biconvex to plano-convex.
Sect. Fulvellae: Caespitose with short rhizomes. Stems bluntly trigonous. Male spike usually 1, terminal, ± pedunculate; female spikes usually several, ± distant, dense; lowest bract leaf-like to setaceous with long sheath; female glumes usually shorter than utricles. Utricles membranous, somewhat inflated, veins usually distinct, smooth, often purplish-spotted; beak rather short, emarginate to bifid. Stigmas 3.
Densely caespitose. Stems 5-75 cm, bluntly trigonous to semiterete, rigid, smooth; basal sheaths becoming blackish-brown and fibrous. Leaves 1-3 mm broad, c. as long as stems or often somewhat shorter, channelled with often inrolled margins, rigid, smooth, greyish-green. Male spike usually solitary. Female spikes 2-4, subglobose to ovoid or shortly cylindrical, 0.5-2 cm, upper often aggregated and subsessile, 1 lower sometimes remote and shortly pedunculate; lowest bract much longer than inflorescence, leaf-like to setaceous, ± patent, with short sheath, to 0.7 cm. Female glumes broadly ovate, mucronate, rusty-brown with paler yellowish mid-vein, hyaline-margined. Utricles greyish green to pale greenish-brown, ovoid, 2.8-4.3 mm, often purple~otted, dull, distinctIy many-veined, ± gradually narrowed into smooth, emarginate to shortly bifid beak to 1 mm. Saltmarshes and saline meadows by coast, s.l.- 70 m. IX:132.
